Weather

Mount Rainier creates its own weather.  It reaches into the atmosphere and interrupts the flow of the moist air masses from the Pacific Ocean.   This results in great amounts of rain and snowfall.  The heavier rainfalls occur between October and early May. During the winter of 1971-72, 1,122 inches of snow fell at the Paradise weather station.  Summer temperatures average in the upper 40's to mid-70's at Longmire (2,761 feet) and in the lower 40's to mid-60's at Paradise (5,400 feet).
